Armstrong's Design my Room (sm)
Lets Consumers Make Over Their OWN Room
Before Spending a Dime

Lancaster , PA — Armstrong World Industries introduces the Design my Room (sm) interactive computer program which allows consumers to virtually re-design their own room, before investing in products and materials.

From floor to ceiling, from cabinets to paint, Armstrong's Design my Room (sm) is a complete room makeover tool. For the first time, consumers easily can completely re-design all the surfaces of any room in their home. They simply load a digital photo of the room, choose products that match their taste and budget, and immediately see the full picture of their room's transformation. They also may choose to select from dozens of pre-installed sample room photos.

Design my Room (sm) is a unique program within the home improvement/re-decorating industry. Armstrong has secured paint pallets from Benjamin Moore ® and Sherwin-Williams ® to complement the flooring, ceiling and cabinet options offered by Armstrong brands. In addition to Armstrong sheet vinyl and vinyl tile, Genuine Linoleum ™ , ceramic tiles and laminate floors, the program also features hardwood floors from Armstrong, including Bruce® Hardwood Floors, Hartco® Quality Hardwood Flooring and Robbins® Fine Hardwood Flooring . The products are available at flooring retailers or major home improvement stores and nationwide.

“Armstrong's Design my Room (sm) lets our customers envision their new room before they start shopping. This makes redecorating easier and more fun,” says Jesse Engle, general manager, eMarketing, Armstrong.

After selecting or uploading a digital photo, consumers use the program's tracing tool to outline areas where they want to insert new surfaces and then merely point and click to explore myriad design combinations. The program will adjust the perspective for the new surfaces, so that, for example, a floor surface looks as if it is lying on the floor, not floating above it. The program also allows the user to share their ideas with friends and family via e-mail and also will create a shopping list based on the final selections.

Consumers may purchase the Design my Room (sm) CD ($12.99) at www.armstrong.com or may download it directly from the Web site ($9.99). The program is designed to operate on Microsoft Windows 98, 2000, ME and XP operating systems.

“Let's face it. Redecorating is a lot of work. Plus, it can be very stressful as well as confusing. Anything we can do to make it easier is a huge benefit to our customers. Armstrong's Design my Room (sm) is one of the ways we're trying to help. We hear customers say, ‘What's this floor going to look like in my house? What paint color will look good with the floor?' Now, for the first time, we can help them,” Engle emphasized . “ Design my Room (sm) lets customers see products in their room before they buy, helping to give them confidence that they are making the right redecorating decisions.”

Since its debut more than four years ago, Armstrong's Web-based Design a Room (sm) which featured generic room scenes has consistently been the site's most popular tool. Consumer feedback to the site, however, has increasingly reflected interest in allowing the consumer to work with their own rooms, as opposed to nonspecific rooms.

An increasingly technology savvy public has led the demand for virtual, personalized home-improvement programming. At the end of 2003, 35 million U.S. households owned digital cameras, according to the Photo Marketing Association International ( www.pmai.org ). Women, who have long taken a lead role in planning and executing home projects, are quickly also becoming the primary users of digital cameras in U.S. homes.
