More features, improvements added to Benjamin Moore's Personal Color Viewer

Northborough, MA, November, 2004 - ei software, inc. has teamed up with Benjamin Moore to create the latest version of its popular visualization solution Personal Color Viewer.

Below is the Benjamin Moore press release highlighting the new & improved features:

Driven to demystify and ease the color selection process, Benjamin Moore Paints has added several noteworthy improvements and a new Mac compatible version to its innovative Personal Color Viewer (PCV).Since its introduction a year ago, this CD program has earned status as one of the most indispensable color visualization tools available. It helps design professionals and paint contractors, as well as homeowners, make color choices for their painting projects right from their own desktops.

Personal Color Viewer 2.0 is the new incarnation and incorporates exciting new features and enhancements that make it one of the most versatile and powerful programs available. It is the first tool of its kind to be compatible with both Mac OS X and PC operating systems.

As is true of the original, PCV 2.0 allows users to select from a variety of interior and exterior images that can be “painted” in any Benjamin Moore color, viewed and printed, or archived online. The company’s entire color offering of 3,200 hues is literally at one’s fingertips to test out on the “virtual walls” of an extensive library of interior environments and exterior views offered by the program. What’s more, Benjamin Moore has added six faux painting techniques that also can be sampled from a new Specialty Finishes Tool. Other notable tweaking payoffs include a new interface that is easier to navigate, and color accuracy that is more precise.

The CD version continues to offer the option of importing and uploading your own images. “This is a major advantage for contractors as well as designers,” said Ray Gomez, manager of creative services for Benjamin Moore. “Digital images of the room or exterior to be painted can actually be colorized for the homeowner onscreen, providing a tremendous aid in color selection.”

Gomez said that the “online painting” takes as little as five to 10 minutes, “a worthwhile investment in time to have at hand the most likely color candidates or a final determination.” Gomez advised that once the PCV 2.0 has yielded the color choices, the next step is to visit a local, authorized Benjamin Moore retailer to obtain exact color samples. “While the PCV 2.0 is a valuable first step,” said Gomez, “and, though we’ve fine-tuned the color precision on this new edition, technology still is not capable of providing online representations that are 100% accurate.”

Another significant update made on the PCV 2.0 is inclusion of an informative Color Basics section. This is a handy resource on color fundamentals, color psychology and color and décor.

“Our end goal has been to create a program that is entirely user-friendly and responsive to just about every concern and need people have as they approach a painting project,” said Gomez.

The Personal Color Viewer 2.0 CD is $14.95 and can be purchased from authorized Benjamin Moore dealers or from the Web site, www.benajminmoore.com. Parallel access to the program also is available from the site for all of the features except uploading of one’s own images.

Benjamin Moore & Co., a Berkshire Hathaway company, is one of the country’s leading manufacturers of premium quality paints, stains and industrial maintenance coatings.
